Problem Note 56798: The SAS® Operational Qualification Tool reports an error when SAS® is installed on a Windows operating system and 8.3 filename creation is disabled
Problem
When you run the SAS Operational Qualification Tool (SAS OQ) under Windows, the tool might run all tests but then, when generating final reports, report the following error in the SAS message log:
ERROR: Unrecognized SAS option name
FILES\SASHOME\SASFOUNDATION\9.4\SASTEST\SASOQ.SAS.
ERROR: (SASXKRIN): KERNEL RESOURCE INITIALIZATION FAILED.
ERROR: Unable to initialize the SAS kernel.
>/p>
Cause
The problem described in this note might occur when
- 8.3 filename creation is disabled for the volume or partition on which your SAS installation is located
- or when 8.3 filename creation is enabled but there is no 8.3 short name for your Program Files folder.
A solution is planned for a future release of SAS software.
Until a solution is delivered, use the following workaround for your SAS OQ reporting purposes.
Workaround
- Locate the result directory that was created by SAS OQ when the problem occurred. The result directory can be found in the directory that you specified for SAS OQ output files to go.
The name of the result directory is in the following format ftt_YYYYMMDD.000, where the .000 is incremented by one for each subsequent SAS OQ invocation on the same day.
For example, if you ran SAS OQ on October 10, 2015 and specified the output directory location as C:\sasoq, the result directory would be located here:
C:\sasoq\ftt_20151015.000
- Select Start ► All Programs ► Accessories and then right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Change directory to the location identified in step 1 as the result directory.
For example: cd "C:\sasoq\ftt_20151015.000"
- Enter the following command in the command prompt window and press Enter. Be sure to enclose the path to sas.exe and sasoq.sas within regular double quotation marks, as shown in the example below. You might need to modify the path to match your SAS installation location.
"C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\sas.exe" -sysin "C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\sastest\sasoq.sas" -autoexec autoexec.sas
- Verify that the sasoq.pdf and sasoq.htm files were created in the result directory. The sasoq.pdf and sasoq.htm files contain the same content but enable you to open the report in either a web browser or PDF file reader.
